COWON iAUDIO U3 Media Player Driver

The joystick can be difficult to push straight in without accidentally nudging it on one direction. My favorite navigation feature is that you can customize the Menu and Rec buttons to do things like add a bookmark, add songs to the dynamic playlist, change playback mode, or go to various menus when you hold COWON iAUDIO U3 Media Player down. Another thing I'm especially hot on: Like most of Cowon's players, the U3 has extra features such as A-B repeat, variable-speed playback, an FM tuner with up to 24 presetsa dynamic playlist, and adjustable skip length a handy feature for language-learners.

You can bookmark files so COWON iAUDIO U3 Media Player can easily return to specific points without having to scan through the entire file; bookmarking is simple enough, but all your bookmarks disappear after you plug in the U3 to a PC. The U3 does not perform gapless playback, however, despite its support for OGG and FLAC files, both of which are designed so they can be played back without silence between two continuous tracks such as those found on concert albums.

The U3 now supports WM DRM 10 for online download and subscription services, but you'll have to make sure you download the latest firmware COWON iAUDIO U3 Media Player www. The player supports ID3 tags, but despite having that option enabled in the Settings menu, the Now Playing screen only showed the folder and file name for many of the tracks I loaded. Overall the U3 offers very good sound quality, though I'm not crazy about the earbuds that come with it.

They're not all that bad, but the bass response isn't great, and you don't hear the detail and crisp highs that the player is capable of producing. The sound was far more appealing with my Ultimate Ears super.

Using my Etymotic ER-4P "audio microscopes" I didn't hear any anomalies or glaring deficiencies in the sound; it's COWON iAUDIO U3 Media Player balanced, with good bass response. My frequency response and distortion tests revealed that the U3's output with the included earbuds and with EQ and sound enhancement options disabled is fairly strong in all audible registers, with slightly better-than-average bass response and a clean signal even at maximum volume. When I first turned the U3 on, I noticed that the bass sounded too strong.

I'm still trying to figure out how Cowon does it. Keeping in mind that mp3 and wma are lossy encoding formats, one tends to forgive the fact that the sound of most portable players is "not quite CD" quality.

From now on I'll hold them all accountableto a CD quality standard The sound is crisp, detailed, accurate and consistent across the wealth of formats both lossless and lossy that the device supports. Of course, "the best yet" doesn't necessarily mean "perfect".

Cowon iAudio U3 - Review - PCMag UK

The case has a somewhat cheap plastic feel to COWON iAUDIO U3 Media Player, and there's none of the panache of the iPod Nano or the iRiver U But it sure is compact, measuring 1. It has a slightly larger version of the same small four-way joystick, the same line-in and headphone jacks at one end, and the same USB port at the other end.

But the buttons along the top have changed slightly--and for the better. The iAudio U3 also bears a hold switch.

We'd say COWON iAUDIO U3 Media Player this new joystick is a tad mushier than the iAudio U2's pinpoint control. Although its controls are simple, many aspects of the iAudio U3's interface can be confusing. Specifically, once you leave the attractive, colorful main menu which consists of six straightforward options and delve into your media collection, it's not always obvious how to maneuver.

When you want to go from, COWON iAUDIO U3 Media Player, the playback screen to the selection screen, your natural instinct is to press the menu button--but that returns you to the main menu. Instead, you have to press the stiff joystick. It took us a while to master these and other interface intricacies, but eventually we got the hang of it.
